Governments of 3000

The Democratic Coalition of Worlds

One of the three governments that branched off from the UN during the Space Industrialization age. The coalition is headed by a Senate. The planets and stations are run by a local governor, elected by the people. The governors meet weekly for a senate meeting. The laws differ slightly from planet to planet, mostly because final decisions are made by the populace in a vote.

The democrats rely on economical ships in their military. They don't have quite the resources as the other goverments (since most of the resorces are kept by the planets for revenue). The democratic navy is still quite respectable, and they can hold their own in any confrontation. Democrats regognize their military as many single people, and rely on voluntary enrollment. For this reason, They would rather flee and live to fight another day, than die in vain.

Republican Combine

The last government to break the UN treaty, their govt is based on an executive branch- the President- and he holds most of the power. The civilians worry that the presidents "advisors" have the real power, since the president rarely goes against their suggestions. The advisors consult with the planetary governors quite often, but it's mostly a formality. The advisors normally have their minds made up way before the meeting...
The Republican Combine itself is wealthy, as far as resources, since the advisors all handle the taxes that come through the system. Republican taxes are based on their Embargo Act of 2253, stating that the government has the right to tax it's pilots for pickups and deliveries made in and through republican space.

The republican Combine show off their wealth in their ships. The quarters are spacious and luxurious, and the ships themselves have a degree of detail no other governments can afford. Even their weapons are incredibly expensive, and their trademark Omega Class Tactical Missile, standard on the Republican Ballista, costs about the same as a small planet.

Takashi Empire

Very little is known about the Takashi. Their government is distinctly communist, with a single emperor, with absolute power. The emperors have life terms, but they can be removed through a long process. Emperors have been prone to assassinations, and with the murder of Yoshina (the last emperor), there were rumours of a "Council of Twelve"... However, people soon forgot the troubles and the theoretical council.

The Takashi Empire, through intelligent resource management and refining techniques, prefer to rely on sleek, fast, and specific vessels that each have a particular job, and do their job exceptionally well.

Draconian Guard

A Government that formed right after the "Sanguine Age"- a particularly bloody period of time shortly after civilians took to space, when space piracy was rampant. They originally protected convoys of expensive ores and materials belonging to big corporations, but since then they've broadened their horizons, offering their services to both private captains and even Government leaders. They all but wiped out piracy in the galaxy, but recently, their has been some uprisings about payment in the corporation... These arguments let several of the elite pilots to quit, and begin pirating themselves.

The Draconian Guard is mostly made up of lower-class citizens. The company offers them a ship, and pays them commision for ships destroyed and escort mileage.

The Red Dragons

A Branch of the draconian guard, disgusted with the pay procedure of the dragonian guard and corrupted by greed, recently created their own tightly knit band of pirates. As of now, they have no large ships, but their fighters are upgraded to easily outrun most threats. They can usually have a shuttle disabled and boarded before the shuttle captain's SOS Hail is ever recieved by anyone.

Neophlitians

Although many people just refer to them as the Terrorists, The Neophites believe that mankind was seeded by an advanced race of extraterrestrials, through a cloning process. They are unwavering in their belief that the aliens helped mankind with it's earliest achievements, from the pyramids, to speaking privately with inventors, helping mankind with it's major achievements such as electricity and the light bulb.
They believe that the aliens will return one day, and bring their vast wealth of knowledge to share.

The Neophites believe mankind has become greedy, chosing to use space travel strictly for monetary benefit, rather than expanding knowledge (like they believe it was intended to do.)They believe this greed and reckless use of space has tainted mankind, and the neophites have been attempting to redeem themselves in the eyes of their gods ever since the hypergate was invented.

They are unwavering in their devotion, and gladly give their lives for the chance the aliens might return for their fellow devotees.

Independent Alliance of Planets

Nothing more a small government that monitors and controls 9 planets around the ruins of Old Earth. Even though the Empire, Coalition, and Combine are far from being on good terms, they fund the IAP and sustain it as a buffer-zone between themselves.

Interstellar Workers Union

A galactic union of workers that was formed to get a discount on the space embargo act's taxes in republican space. They serve all of the peaceful governments, and have a long-standing contract with the draconian guard. They handle 95% of the larger cargo hauls in known space.

The ISW has one of the most advanced shipyards and research facilities in known space (excluding the three major governments), although they would rather rely on speed and defense than brutish weapons. Even the shuttle, in common use in all known space, is a modern ISW design.

Interspace Legalities Inc.

When mankind went to space, the distrust and deception followed. Every day, people sue companies, governments, and other citizens; sometimes to make a quick buck, and other times a reasonable reimbursement. Interspace legalities covers both the document shipping and investigative work for the private sector of known space.
Despised by most governments and organisations, they are quite peaceful. Their shipments are often targeted by the people the information may point towards. Working for I-L is often dangerous, but many captains take the risk for the paycheck.
